I used to have a pearl shop in High Point, North Carolina, and opened it up two times a year during the International Furniture Show. At every show I had several customers who would buy a lot of Pearl Fever jewelry to resell in their own shops or to friends and family.
One of my customers, who owned a boutique in High Point, came into my shop on the morning of opening day and bought, among other purchases of pearls, four necklaces like the necklace in the photo. The necklace has 9mm pearls and the beads are handmade, Venetian glass, lamp work beads.
In the afternoon, she arrived back at my shop, and was out-of breath from running into the building and into my shop. “Do you have anymore of those pearl necklaces with the glass beads?!”
“I have four left. I guess you want them.”
“I do! I would buy twenty of those if I could. I bought four this morning, doubled the price, and they were gone within hours.”
As soon as I got home from the furniture market, I ordered more of those necklaces from a pearl vendor in Shanghai, Ling Ling, who made eight necklaces for me. Now Ling Ling doesn’t have anymore of those handmade beads!
